Clinical Coding Manager

CantelloTayler Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Clinical Coding Manager to join a growing organisation based in Staines to be accountable for the strategy and development of coding related systems and services.

A hybrid role after probation, with competitive benefits.

The Clinical Coding Manager responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for the Coding strategy
  • Take monthly 121;s with your team members and create individual and team objectives
  • Work customer cases where needed and respond within SLA
  • Ensure all customer cases are responded to within SLA
  • Strong management and leadership, ensuring workload is evenly distributed and the team are multiskilled
  • Support and train colleagues in clinical coding related matters
  • Educate customer and internal staff on how coding works and the principles of coding
  • Ensure all Coding related processes are updated
  • Ensure integrity of the coding process
  • Assess the market and keep up to date with external coding affairs
  • Publish coding standards on behalf of the company
  • Lead the ongoing development of the ISC classification and liaise with customers for new code development
  • Analyse Generic clinical code sets EMR / EHR systems
  • Analyse and support Pharmacy code sets - DM+D and BNF
  • Mapping clinical terminologies to clinical codes across several classifications including OPCS, CCSD, ICD10, ICD9 and ISCs. And other more standard / global systems, SNOMED.
  • Map clinical codes to genders, anatomical classifications and specialties
  • Understanding customer’s codes are mapped and standardised, handling customer support issues and producing customer analysis and reports
  • Ensure provider Chargemaster mappings are maintained and developed
  • Work closely with the product owners on implementation of clinical code sets
  • Support coding development and standards to support business intelligence and reporting programmes
  • Plan and chair customer Coding workshops
  • Support the re-write of the claims clearing service
  • Support cross mappings of code sets
  • Build and maintain a Coding data dictionary and be responsible for the standards, distribution and publication
  • Keep up with the maintenance and standardisation of code sets
  • Evaluate available code sets and classifications to determine current and future suitability
  • Attend customer and insurer meetings where coding related topics need discussing
  • Support ongoing development of coding related systems and services. Identifying opportunities for product enhancements and developments
  • Advise customers and internal teams on the best codes to use
  • Contract management between providers and insurers.

The Clinical Coding Manager required skills and experience:

  • Educated to degree level or recognised equivalent
  • National Accredited Clinical Coder Qualification (ACC)
  • Proven managerial experience of managing a clinical coding team
  • High-level customer service experience
  • Experience of Implementation, review and undertaking of a structured coding audit programme and the writing of audit reports
  • Experience with CRM systems
  • Clinical coding knowledge and experience
  • Understanding of operational procedures and QA process standards
  • Advanced knowledge of complex medical terminology and anatomy and physiology
  • Proven expertise and specialist knowledge in the application of the rules and conventions of ICD-10 and OPCS-4.
  • Strong analytical, administrative and organisation skills and great attention to detail
  • Excellent listening, questioning and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrable initiative and enthusiasm, and the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Good team player
  • Delivery focused with the ability to prioritise business critical solutions.
  • Ability to develop stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
