Animal Care Instructor with responsibility for Managing the Yard

If you are a Teacher/Instructor who can enthuse, motivate and engage students and would like the challenge of working in a demanding and rewarding environment, then we want to hear from you!Job role - Animal Care InstructorThe Animal Care Instructor will be responsible for leading Animal Care across the school. You will ensure high standards of teaching, learning and achievement, efficient use of resources, including staff, and the creative development of the Animal Care curriculum.Animal Care has a strong profile in the school from Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 5. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Animal Care specialist who can lead work with pupils with a wide range of ability levels and be able to deliver Animal Care to AQA level and run the British Horse Society Stage 1 care, Stage 2 care and the Challenge Award Assessment qualifications.Managing the Yard:? Manage a small team of people working at the yard. Plan rota's for weekends, holidays and over the Christmas period and bank holidays.Ensuring everyone knows what they are doing and when with the yard work and animals, covering weekend shifts if people are sick, completing back to work interviews and supervisions.? Organising field management; rest and rotations, adequate shelters for the times of year - grass management to include the removal of poisonous plants, rabbit holes etc. and restricted grazing for the ponies at risk of illness/laminitis.? Booking appointments for all the animals; vets, farriers, dentists, saddle fitters, back check ups for the ridden horses and annual shearing/worming/teeth/feet appointments for the Llamas and the sheep including those outside of working hours and being here for them.? Managing the care of animals on medication plus the ordering, collection and administration of medication including those that are outside of working hours.? Being on call in case of emergencies with any of the animals i.e. horses really lame, removing horses shoes, emergency vet calls for horses if they have colic etc.? Keeping records for all the animals; teeth, farrier, dentists, worming, flea treatments etc.? Oversee the worming treatments/vet appointments for the pigs at Wilds? Liaising and organising any repairs that need doing with the maintenance team? Ordering of feed, bedding, hay and arranging deliveries.? Liaising with Bransby Horses (rescue charity who we have a therapy shetland from)The successful candidate will have the ability to embrace the inclusive therapeutic culture and ethos of the school.
