Transport Operator | Containers - London Gateway, Essex

Role Overview

This role involves managing and coordinating transportation operations to ensure timely deliveries, regulatory compliance, and smooth communication between all stakeholders. The position encompasses responsibilities ranging from route planning and scheduling to monitoring, customer service, and cost management.

Job type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday (08:00 to 18:00)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform checks, route planning, maintenance, and problem-solving tasks
  • Dispatch truck and ensure smooth transition to destination
  • Liaise with port expeditors and supervisors to ensure accurate dispatch of jobs.
  • Coordinate with drivers regarding parking and overnight procedures.
  • Provide customer service support by liaising with the CS team on daily issues.
  • Work closely with port supervisors to manage driver/truck allocations.
  • Communicate with HR to resolve any driver-related issues.
  • Coordinate with the fleet department regarding truck and trailer services.
  • Ensure regular screen maintenance and follow week-end close down procedures.

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in VBS systems for ports, TOPS, and Destin8 systems.
  • Previous experience working with containers is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to manage internal and external interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to flexible working hours, including shift work or on-call availability.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
