About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead our Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Governance and Assurance team. As the Head of SHEQ Governance and Assurance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement across all our operations. This senior position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of SHEQ principles, excellent leadership skills, and a strong track record of implementing effective governance frameworks. Job Description:

  • Oversee and periodically review the overall governance framework for the division; ensure it is fit for purpose and provide clear accountable decision making and oversight.
  • Develop, implement, and lead the embedment of a Business Management System across the telecom division which is fit for purpose and meets the requirements of ISO45001:2018, ISO9001:2015, ISO14001:2015, other relevant standards, British Standards, and industry best practice.
  • Maintain and where necessary enhance the process for the execution of compliance and assurance across the division underpinned by audit management which identifies and communicates non-conformance to the relevant standards and or legislation.
  • Act as technical and strategic advisor to the division in relation to technical and compliance risk management, making recommendations to the senior leadership team to mitigate the risks to our people (employees and contractors) and limit reputational damage to the group.
  • Control and collaborate with the Heads of SHEQ in supporting the divisional SHEQ Directors strategy and support embedding of behavioral change, encompassing safety leadership and an incident free culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a framework is in place that promotes and encourages an organisational culture that champions an incident free environment.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new, and upcoming safety, health and environmental legislation and ensure that the business implements systems and procedures to meet legal compliance.
  • Deliver a joined up and coordinated approach to compliance and assurance to ensure that there is appropriate levels of governance and process in place to meet statutory requirements.
  • Ensure that the business management systems support and steer operational planned and reactive maintenance and inspection activities.
  • Develop and maintain the SHEQ policies and procedures within the Business Management System and ensure that appropriate records are kept as required under ISO45001:2018, ISO9001:2015 and ISO14001:2015.
  • Provide assurance across the division to verify that appropriate levels of personnel training (including management systems operations) to facilitate a competent and effective workforce.
  • Review accident, incident and near miss findings to effect change and lessons learned into the Business Management System.
  • Plan and coordinate an effective programme of SHEQ Assurance across the division.
  • Maintain and where appropriate enhance the telecom division risk tool to appropriately manage risk.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the certification bodies for the ISO standards and other accreditations (e.g. Safe Contractor, Achilles, Carbon Reduce etc.).
  • Manage the legal and Risk registers for the division.
  • Oversee the periodic review of policies and procedure in line with the documented revision cycles.
  • Provide advice and guidance on SHEQ related matters as required.
  • Analyse data to determine SHEQ trends and determine appropriate mitigating actions.
  • Undertake quarterly 1-2-1 reviews across your direct reports.
  • Represent the division at associated internal environmental groups (e.g., Carbon Reduction Group and Waste Management Forums etc.).
  • Support Heads of SHEQ in external audits / verification of company accreditations etc.
  • Support Heads of SHEQ in applications for external awards.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with the senior leadership teams, managers, and other key personnel to establish and maintain a programme of continual improvement.
  • Develop and maintain an effective 3rdparty assurance audit schedule using active and re-active monitoring to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to produce policies, procedures and safe systems of work where identified.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders in and outside of the division so that governance supports and enables the operational delivery of strategic objectives.
