Location: Hertfordshire

Salary: Up to £57,000 (DoE) + Bonus

Experience needed: We are seeking an experienced Environmental Engineering Lead with a strong background in environmental engineering ideally within a complex environment such as aerospace, defence or automotive. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in mechanical and climatic environmental requirements, including test processes and relevant industry standards.

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Engineering Lead to work closely with cross-functional teams to define and deliver environmental engineering activities, including requirements, design support, and proving strategies. You will be responsible for ensuring environmental (mechanical and climatic) considerations are embedded throughout the product lifecycle, from requirement definition to certification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and implement environmental engineering strategies to support product design, proving, and certification
  • Act as the focal point for all mechanical and climatic environmental activities, ensuring coherence across teams
  • Engage with internal stakeholders such as ISV, Systems, Mechanical Analysis, and external partners to drive environmental engineering excellence
  • Lead environmental working groups to coordinate activities and achieve strategic goals
  • Manage technical assurance of design, performance, development, and qualification within the environmental domain
  • Provide expertise to senior stakeholders, including Project Heads and Chief Engineers, to resolve engineering challenges
  • Influence design, manufacturing, and proving strategies to enhance product development

What we need from you:

  • Strong experience in planning, managing, and delivering engineering strategies
  • Knowledge of mechanical and climatic environmental factors and their impact at different life cycle stages
  • Understanding of environmental test processes, instrumentation, and validation techniques
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as DEF STAN 00-035 and MIL-STD-810
  • Ability to develop innovative approaches to requirement definition and system proving
  • Proficiency in requirement management tools such as DOORS NG and JIRA
