About the Role:
Scottish Sea Farms is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Environmental Officer to join their Sustainability & Development team. This role is pivotal in ensuring regulatory compliance and driving forward their sustainability goals as they expand their marine farming operations. The successful candidate will engage in a wide range of environmental tasks, from hands-on survey work to regulatory compliance and sustainability reporting, contributing to their mission of sustainable aquaculture growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Survey Work: Plan, participate in, and conduct environmental surveys (e.g., benthic, epifaunal, bathymetry) to support compliance and development initiatives. This includes liaising with regulators and overseeing third-party contractors.
  • Development Support: Collaborate with production and fish health teams to assess environmental conditions, analyse modelling outputs, and identify new site opportunities. Prepare technical reports and assist with ADCP and wave buoy deployments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Support compliance by managing site leases, licenses, and permissions. Oversee the timely submission of statutory reports and data returns required by SEPA, Marine Directorate, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Sustainability Initiatives: Collect and analyse sustainability data, help compile net-zero action plans, and work with industry partners to foster biodiversity. Stay updated on relevant regulations and industry standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing, with attention to regulatory and environmental compliance.
  • Enthusiastic about fieldwork, with flexibility for travel and outdoor work at sea.
  • Experience in environmental monitoring or aquaculture (advantageous). Basic understanding of aquaculture regulations is beneficial, though full training will be provided.
