My client are a leading highways contractor based in the North West of the UK, specialising in infrastructure and civil engineering projects. With an excellent reputation for quality and safety, They are dedicated to delivering successful and sustainable projects across the region. They are currently seeking an Assistant Site Manager to join our growing team and support the delivery of key highways projects.
The Role:
As an Assistant Site Manager, you will assist in the day-to-day management of highways construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. You will support the Site Manager in overseeing site activities and maintaining high standards of health and safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing and coordinating site activities to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Help implement and monitor Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures on site.
- Support the Site Manager in overseeing subcontractors, suppliers, and site personnel.
- Monitor and track project progress, including reporting on milestones and work completed.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and health & safety regulations.
- Assist with resource allocation, including labour, equipment, and materials.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and other site-related discussions.
- Help manage and resolve on-site issues or delays, escalating matters to the Site Manager when necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of progress reports and other site documentation.
- Support the Site Manager in liaising with clients, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and progress.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role within the highways or civil engineering sector is preferred but not essential.
- A relevant construction qualification (e.g. HNC, HND, or degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management) is desirable.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or similar health and safety certification is highly beneficial.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Good knowledge of construction processes, site safety, and industry regulations
- Proactive, with a can-do attitude and a strong willingness to learn.
- Full UK driving license.
