A well-established and highly regarded civil engineering and groundworks contractor is seeking a Freelance Site Manager to oversee projects across commercial, industrial, and education sectors. This company is known for delivering high-quality heavy civils and groundworks packages, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, reinforced concrete structures, and external works.
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Site Manager with a strong background in heavy civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing site operations, coordinating subcontractors, ensuring quality compliance, and driving projects to completion within budget and schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all on-site operations, ensuring projects adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and direct site staff to maintain progress in line with the programme.
- Conduct daily site briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are followed.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain efficiency.
- Liaise with clients, engineers, and senior management to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Enforce high standards of workmanship and quality control, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, including daily reports, progress updates, and health & safety records.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or operational issues that arise on site.
Key Requirements:
- Proven Experience: At least 5+ years as a Site Manager in heavy civils, groundworks, and structural concrete for commercial, industrial, or education projects.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of deep drainage, foundations, steel frames, RC structures, external works, and infrastructure development.
- Health & Safety Compliance: In-depth knowledge of CDM regulations, Temporary Works procedures, and best site safety practices.
- Qualifications:
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – Essential
- CSCS (Gold or Black Card) – Essential
- First Aid at Work – Essential
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) – Desirable
- NVQ Level 6/7 in Construction Management – Desirable
- IT & Reporting Skills: Ability to manage site paperwork, RAMS, progress reports, and digital documentation.
- Strong Leadership: Ability to lead a team effectively, manage multiple trades, and drive performance to meet programme deadlines.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Experience in dealing with unforeseen site issues, adapting work plans, and mitigating delays.
