Job Description:This role ensures newly designed products are effectively transitioned to production, enabling the manufacturing team to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.
Main Responsibilities/Key Tasks:
- Deliver all aspects of Manufacturing Engineering through the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, adhering to company and product quality standards, including ISO 9001.
- Provide robust designs and processes to the Manufacturing team, ensuring estimated product yield, quality, and labor times are achievable.
- Collaborate as part of a cross-functional design team, championing and executing design for manufacturing from initial concept through to product release.
- Promote and implement continuous improvement tools and lean manufacturing throughout the Operations team.
- Identify and address areas for process improvement regarding quality, cost, and manufacturing time.
- Specify and procure new equipment in line with the demands of new products and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to resource estimates for new projects.
- Manage time effectively across multiple NPI projects and communicate progress against plan to the wider team.
- Design and input manufacturing routings within the company's MRP system.
- Work with the Production support team to achieve departmental targets and KPIs.
- Develop an understanding of a large portion of the product portfolio and build manufacturing knowledge.
- Engage in personal development and stay updated on new manufacturing technologies relevant to the company.
- Develop detailed and accurate work instructions in CAD and written documents.
- Must be able to acquire security clearance for MoD/Military access.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
- Degree / HND Qualified in a relevant subject
- Competent in electronic fault finding and manufacturing tasks such as soldering and electrical wiring
- Understanding of safe working practices in a factory environment
- Experienced in root cause investigation and problem-solving methodologies such as 8D
- Computer literate and proficient in word processing and other document systems
- Ability to create accurate work instructions for product manufacturing and review processes for improvement
- Effective communicator across business levels and departments
Desirable:
- Knowledge of programming languages and PLCs
- 2+ years of Electrical/Electronic Practical Production Engineering Experience
- Experience with continuous improvement techniques, such as Lean Manufacturing
