Role - Senior Residential Care Worker

Location: Stoke on Trent

A fantastic opportunity to be involved in the provision of responsive care and support, to children and young people who have complex emotional and social needs using a parenting approach to ensure children and young people are safe, well and cared for.

You will be working in a small children’s home, looking after up to 3 children and young people at a time.

About you:

  • Understand the complexities of mental health, trauma, substance misuse, and offending behaviour.
  • Reflect on emotional responses and demonstrate empathy and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Promote rights, responsibilities, and informed choices.
  • Adapt to changing needs with flexibility and resilience.
  • Familiarity with data management, and Microsoft Office.
  • Committed to working with vulnerable children, young people, and families, with strong negotiation and advocacy skills.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21+ and pass a DBS check due to safeguarding responsibilities
  • Hold a driver’s license with access to own vehicle
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work towards Level 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare (England) or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake further training.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 high-quality care addressing physical, emotional, and social needs of children and young people.
  • Build positive, accepting relationships with children and update their care plans.
  • Manage safeguarding, handle emergencies, prepare healthy meals, and maintain a clean living space.
  • Offer ongoing emotional support, conduct needs assessments, and prepare reports.
  • Administer medication, arrange health appointments, provide transport, and support community involvement.
  • Ensure smooth transitions between placements and advocate for children at meetings.
  • Liaise with families and professionals to support comprehensive care.
  • Ensure personal and colleague safety following company policies.
  • Maintain equal opportunities and fair treatment for all cultures.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding children, young people, and company information.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Champion key areas like safeguarding or health and safety.
  • Lead shifts, coordinate staff, and manage supervision for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and standards, handle medication checks, and escalate concerns as needed.
  • Report health and safety issues and manage repairs.

Partnership Working:

  • Prepare for and attend relevant meetings.
  • Collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Challenge inadequate performance by relevant parties and maintain professional relationships.

Administration:

  • Accurately maintain electronic records and follow policies.
  • Use IT effectively, ensure confidentiality, and adapt to business needs.

General Accountabilities:

  • Uphold high-quality standards and communicate effectively within the team and across the company.
  • Align activities with company vision and meet performance targets.
  • Participate in cross-sectional projects and corporate tasks as needed.
