Reporting to: Head of Procurement

The primary purpose of the Supply Chain manager is to optimise supply chain operations, ensuring the supply chain is capable of meeting the business requirements.

Position in the Organisation

The Supply Chain Manager specialises in planning, expediting and supplier control. They are responsible for overseeing and optimising the supply chain production planning process, ensuring efficient material management, and maintaining high standards of supply chain quality. This role requires strategic thinking, strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Supply Chain Production Planning:

  • Develop and implement supply chain production schedules:
  • Create detailed supply chain production plans that align with business objectives, customer demand, and resource availability.
  • Coordinate with supply chain production planners, purchasing, and Subcontractor Managers to ensure seamless execution of supply chain production plans.
  • Capacity Planning:
  • Analyse supply chain production capacity and adjust plans as necessary to meet demand fluctuations.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve production flow and efficiency.
  • Demand Forecasting:
  • Collaborate with sales and internal production teams to develop accurate demand forecasts.
  • Utilise statistical tools and historical data to predict future demand and adjust supply chain production schedules accordingly.
  • Material Control:
  • Material Stock Management:
  • Implement policies & procedures to ensure efficient and effective material control and management through the supply chain.
  • Maintain accurate records for Material Status, both weight & form, at every stage in the supply chain, thereby ensuring segregation and preventing material contamination.
  • Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP):
  • Utilise MRP systems to manage material availability, supply chain production schedules, and procurement plans.
  • Ensure timely availability of free-issue material and components, as well as execution of subcontract activities to meet production schedules.
  • Supply Chain Material Audits:
  • Conduct regular supply chain audits to verify accuracy and integrity of material records.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Supply Chain Quality:
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Develop and implement supply chain quality standards and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Supplier Management:
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing Manager, evaluate and manage suppliers based on quality, delivery, cost, risk and management criteria.
  • In conjunction with the Quality team, conduct regular supplier audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and continuous improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Lead initiatives to improve supply chain processes, enhance quality and reduce costs.
  • Utilise Lean, Six Sigma, and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with Quality, Sales, Purchasing, Production, Engineering and other departments to ensure cohesive supply chain operations.
  • Facilitate effective communication between departments to address and resolve supply chain issues.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare regular reports on supply chain production performance, material control and supply chain quality.
  • Analyse data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Communicate with key stakeholders, including senior management, to provide updates on supply chain performance and strategic initiatives.

Requirements for the position:

  • Experience in a commercial role in a Manufacturing environment
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • CIPS qualified / Part-qualified & willing to study
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills are crucial for managing multiple tasks, maintaining accurate records, and prioritising workload efficiently.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite would be an advantage.
