A leading organisation in the Engineering Equipment industry is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will design and develop control solutions for gas, hydraulic, and process systems, alongside other manufacturing processes. This role involves creating innovative electrical schematics, ensuring compliance with standards, and providing technical support to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Design:

    • Design electrical schematics using EPLAN (or similar) to detail how components and panels work together.
    • Produce layout drawings, component specifications, and bill of materials.
    • Update engineering drawings to reflect as-built data and changes.
    • Conduct system calculations, including power requirements and IS circuit calculations.
  • Project Support:

    • Assist with onsite installation requirements and system testing.
    • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to ensure system requirements are met.
    • Support project-specific safety documentation, such as IEC61508 and EN ISO 13849.
    • Contribute to the development of operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Participate in design standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the quality department to ensure timely documentation delivery.
  • Technical Documentation:

    • Prepare functional design specifications (FDS), technical files, and customer-specific quality documentation.
    • Maintain ATEX/IECEx technical files and related records.
  • Support and Troubleshooting:

    • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers.
    • Assist the service team with technical queries and issue resolution.
Key Competencies
  • Proficient in flow diagram interpretation (e.g., Visio).
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of working logically on complex systems.
  • Knowledge of fault finding and commissioning activities is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with planning tools such as EPLAN or equivalent software.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles and standards.
  • Strong experience in electrical software engineering.
  • Ability to use various software packages and tools effectively.
Travel and Work Arrangements
  • Moderate travel may be required to oversee the installation and commissioning of designs and systems.
  • This is a full-time, permanent role based in Sunderland.
