Morgan Hunt are currently recruiting for an IT Manager for our FE Client in Birmingham. This role is a great opportunity with a great chance of progressing to the Director of IT role in a short space of time. This is to manage the Network & Infrastructure, tech operations and desktop teams.

Salary: £47-51.5k

Annual Leave:

Location: Birmingham

Hybrid Working: Occasional Attendance, mostly remote working

The role involves managing and maintaining the Organisations IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and network systems, ensuring they are robust, reliable, and meet stakeholder needs. Key responsibilities include overseeing the installation and configuration of physical and virtual servers, managing software licensing, and ensuring the infrastructure is up to date with the latest technology. The role also includes working with external vendors and third-party suppliers, resolving technical issues, and monitoring system performance.

Collaboration with IT leadership is essential, especially in developing and implementing cybersecurity strategies and business continuity plans. The role supports the Organisation's compliance with standards such as Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001 and ensures IT security, data protection, and high-quality service delivery for staff and students. Additionally, the individual will be responsible for providing 3rd-line technical support, managing IT projects, evaluating new applications, and maintaining a proactive approach to system development.

The position also involves leadership responsibilities, such as managing the Technical Operations team, deputising for the Director of IT, and promoting the College's values and goals in areas like safeguarding, inclusion, and quality standards.

Key Requirements:
  • Team Management: Proven experience leading technical teams that support enterprise-level infrastructure, ensuring high service delivery standards.
  • Infrastructure Expertise: Strong knowledge of server, SAN storage, and switch architecture, with hands-on experience in managing these systems.
  • Backup & Data Protection: Deep understanding of backup strategies and data protection for enterprise systems, including recovery procedures.
  • Operational Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of IT operations, including system management, troubleshooting, and process optimisation (e.g., ITIL, change management).
  • This role requires someone with broad technical expertise and leadership skills to manage complex IT environments.
