A behaviour mentor is someone who provides guidance to a person who is suffering from behavioural issues. Within this role, you will work closely with students within the school to help them succeed both in and out of the classroom. Behaviour mentors help children to develop skills and increase their self-awareness by empowering them to take ownership of their behaviour. In summary, they play a crucial role in supporting student’s personal growth.  

You will need to be highly proactive to gain the engagement of the students and to keep positive behaviours.

To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate should:

  • Relevant Qualifications - for example,  Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification, or a background in Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling, or similar fields.
  • Previous experience working with children in a school or similar setting, particularly those with behavioural challenges.
  • Strong behaviour management experience and understanding of implementing stratefies to help manage and improve behaviours.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with pupils, staff, and parents, building positive relationships and offering clear guidance.
  • Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly around conditions such as ADHD, Autism, or Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD).

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in an education or childcare role is essential
  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK
  • Must hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to process one
  • Must be able to provide a minimum of 2 references
