Financial Controller

South Derbyshire - Hybrid

Eaton Syalon is partnering exclusively with a high growth SME manufacturing business to recruit a Financial Controller into the team following an internal promotion. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to build upon a strong business foundation and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the finance function.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and working closely with the Group Finance Director, the Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing the finance department's operations. This includes setting financial targets, collaborating with various departments to establish and maintain budgets, and ensuring financial accountability at all levels—from the manufacturing shop floor to direct customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full month-end process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting
  • Manage the annual audit process and tax compliance requirements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and conduct regular forecasting to foster a "no surprises" culture.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of five finance professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Act as a business partner to the Managing Director, providing strategic financial insights and support.
  • Monitor capital expenditure projects to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Analyse margins on financial results and tendering processes to drive profitability.
  • Implement and oversee cost-saving initiatives across the organisation.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within an SME manufacturing environment.
  • Strong track record in presenting key financial data and managing accounting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a business partner, working closely with senior management to drive performance improvements.
  • Experience in developing commercial margin models and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
  • Procurement management experience would be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Power BI and Microsoft Navision is desirable.
  • A proactive and positive attitude with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
