Administrative / Information Assistant

Location: Craig y Nos Country Park, Pen-Y-Cae

Salary: Grade 3 £24,790 - £25,584 pro rata

Hours: 15 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, part time

The Role

To provide an on-site courteous and comprehensive visitor information service, ensuring all information is accurate and promotes National Park purposes and current policies. To provide all necessary administrative support for the Country Park, and to help ensure the success of its activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be a first point of contact, to provide a courteous, wide ranging and in-depth information service to visitors; achieved by face-to-face, telephone, written and electronic responses.
  • To assist in the compilation and storage of resource material and computer data to support the work of the Country Park. To have a level of computer literacy to produce information in the form of factsheets.
  • To be responsible for the ordering, receiving, pricing, displaying and selling of the stock (books, maps, souvenirs, etc.) and to assist with a twice-yearly stock take.
  • To be responsible for the operation of the info shed / shop, the safety of its contents and the recording of the daily takings.
  • To assist with the financial administration of the Country Park including processing of Purchase Orders, cheque requests and invoice requests; collating information regarding income and preparing a ledger; preparation of monies for banking and placing deposits at the bank.
  • To assist with administration of the Country Park services and functions including collating and compiling visitor / performance data; take bookings for and receive payments for a range of visitor services.
  • To provide any other administrative support for all other Country Park activities including liaison with contractors, suppliers and other non-public users; health and safety ledger; arranging for service repairs and maintenance to Centre property and equipment; compilation of staff records etc.
  • To provide administrative support for the Country Park manager for all events organised at the Country Park.
  • To assist in the supervision of Centre facilities by the public and visiting groups and setting up of any equipment required by them.
  • Responsibility for covering absent colleagues and to work at other National Park centres if required.
  • Any other duty, appropriate to the grade and nature of the post, as required by the Country Park Manager.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • A good geographical knowledge of the National Park, places of special interest and tourist attractions including Craig y Nos country Park
  • Ability to use and interpret maps
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public and colleagues
  • Ability to take responsibility for cash handling & operate cash register
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Experience of communicating electronically and by telephone
  • Good numeracy & literacy skills
  • Level 0 Welsh Language Skill

Desirable:

  • Valid driving licence and own transport
  • Experience of walking in the mountains and countryside of the National Park
  • Ability to communicate other European languages
  • Willingness to undergo training as required
  • Level 1 Welsh Language Skill
