About this Role:
Experienced Senior Design Manager / Design Lead required for a major 250m new build entertainment venue, hotel and leisure development in Cardiff, South Wales
The role is with a leading national main contractor, initially to manage design development through the second stage design process and then lead the team throughout delivery on site.
As Senior Design Manager / Design Lead you will be reporting to the Design Director and working closely with the PD, preconstruction, project operational and commercial teams. You will be responsible for:
* Management of a team of Design Managers and associated support functions;
* Management of the second stage design process though to contract and start on site;
* Management of the design development across all packages of works for procurement and delivery;
* Client and stakeholder engagement throughout;
* Chairing regular design team meetings; Management of consultant design team;
* Managing specialist sub-contractor design teams;
* Agreement of information required schedule; Ensuring key dates achieved;
* Review of construction design information for buildability, compliance with contractors proposals, employers requirements, budget, current building legislation, etc;
* Identifying opportunities for value engineering opportunities where appropriate;
* Proactive issue resolution, and ensuring this across your team;
* Overall managing the smooth and timely delivery of detailed design information for procurement and construction throughout the build process to completion
About the Company/Client/Project:
The company is a leading national main contractor, with experience and a proven track record in the delivery of complex new build schemes in large leisure, industrial, data centre, commercial, education, and residential markets ranging from 50m to 300m+ along the M4 corridor and South West area.
Requirements including certificates and qualifications:
Either from an Engineering/Construction delivery or Architectural background, you will possess excellent technical and commercial knowledge, a keen understanding of construction methodology, materials and systems, procurement lead in times, etc.
You will have 10-15+ years of Design Management experience with a Tier 1 main contractor, ideally working on a major project with responsibility for leading and managing a small team.
You will have excellent communication and negotiations skills, strong planning and problem solving ability, initiative and a positive approach. In terms of character, you will be a highly driven, confident leader, a positive and ambitious individual able to work well within a larger team dynamic.
You will ideally have a proven track record of successful project delivery with a recognised Main Contractor in the Senior Design Management role. Previous experience of working on larger projects is essential for this role, plus specific experience of working an entertainment venue / arena / stadium and hotel would be highly advantageous.
