The students attending the specialist school have face mild to severe learning difficulties as well having as social, emotional and mental health needs. For an Aspiring Occupational Therapist, this is an excellent opportunity to work closely with the school's team of professionals on site. Networking with other therapists, psychologists and safeguarding professionals gives any Aspiring Occupational Therapist with a chance to get their 'foot in the door'. Working in this supporting role will open your eyes to what career routes you can follow such as Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy.

The job responsibilities include

  • Behavioural and pastoral support
  • Excellent communication skills
  • 1-1 support of students
  • Making sure students feel secure and empowered
  • Assist class teachers to provide enhanced learning experience for students

Many of the students attending the school face challenges regarding dysfunctional family relationships, low educational attainment, marginalisation and disadvantage. Subsequently, they are more 'at risk' of negative outcomes. As an Aspiring Occupational Therapist, you can see how crucial your role is in ensuring children feel safe and secure. Facilitating a supportive community is important to keep students on track and excited to succeed at life.
