Health,Safety &Environment Manager
Location: Sydenham & Orpington, with travel to charity shop locations (currently 24 sites across South East London)
Reports To: Head of Estates and Site Services
Salary: 55,371 per annum
Hours: 36 hours per week
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a dedicated Health & Safety and Environment Manager to oversee and enhance health and safety practices and manage environmental sustainability across the hospice sites in Sydenham and Orpington, as well as our charity shops. This role is pivotal in ensuring that we maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace for all employees, patients, visitors, and volunteers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures, and environmental practices across our multiple sites. You will play a key role in reducing our environmental impact while ensuring we continue to meet and exceed regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health & Safety Guidance: Provide expert health and safety advice, support, and guidance to all levels of the organisation, ensuring a safe working environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
- Policy Implementation: Develop and ensure the implementation of policies and procedures that adhere to health and safety best practices, guaranteeing the well-being of all individuals across all locations.
- Environmental Impact: Monitor and support the reduction of the environmental impact, recommending and implementing sustainability initiatives to improve environmental performance.
- Audits and Inspections: Conduct or coordinate regular health and safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all hospice sites and charity shops, ensuring compliance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Compliance & Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including clinical teams, to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Training & Development: Assist in the development and delivery of health and safety training programs to staff, promoting a safety-first culture across the organisation.
- Regulatory Updates: Keep up to date with the latest industry regulations, trends, and best practices to ensure we maintain a proactive and compliant approach to health and safety and environmental management.
Skills and Experience:
- Health & Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, environmental impact management, and sustainability practices.
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in a health and safety or environmental role, ideally within a healthcare or multi-site setting.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, from senior management to staff and volunteers.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey complex information in a clear and accessible manner.
- Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, manage multiple tasks, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Qualifications: Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, Chartered IOSH) and/or environmental management certifications are required.
