A growing business is seeking an Engineering Director to lead the Software Development team, overseeing team management, project execution and delivery. Along with a salary of up to £110,000 per annum, you will receive a bonus scheme and a full benefits package. This role combines technical expertise with leadership to drive the development of innovative products, ensure quality, contribute to architectural decisions and align efforts with company goals. You will be working remotely, with 2 days per fortnight and the Midlands office. As Engineering Director, some of your key responsibilities will include:
  • Providing technical guidance to teams, enabling the team to navigate complex technical challenges whilst ensuring scalability, security and maintainability whilst ensuring alignment with strategic direction.
  • Proactively identifying technical and operational risks in collaboration with the CTO and other leadership, ensuring that appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented to maintain high system reliability and performance.
  • Leading, mentoring and managing multiple cross-functional squads ensuring that team members are aligned with the strategic technology direction set by the CTO.
  • Fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability and high performance.
  • Providing regular reports to the CTO on engineering progress, challenges and resource needs. Ensuring alignment with the broader technology strategy, reporting key performance metrics and progress against goals.
  • Fostering an open, transparent and collaborative environment, ensuring that the engineering team is aligned with the broader organisational strategy.
  • Working closely with the executive team to define and deliver the product roadmap and align efforts with organisational goals.
  • Overseeing planning, execution and delivery of key projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budget and maintain a high level of quality.
  • Continuously assessing and refining engineering practices, methodologies and tools to increase efficiency, quality and manage risk.
  • Contributing actively to the Architecture team’s decisions, ensuring that engineering designs and practices align with the strategic technology vision.
We’re looking for an Engineering Director with:
  • Experience managing circa 40 engineers, via 5/6 direct reports
  • A coding background, ideally Visual Studio (C#) - this is a non-coding role.
  • Experience transitioning an engineering team from Waterfall to Agile/SaaS Product Delivery
  • The ability to build positive relationships with internal stakeholders from other teams (product/implementation etc)
