We're recruiting on behalf of a respected multi-academy trust, seeking a Finance Assistant to join their dynamic central finance team. Your Role:
As Finance Assistant, you'll work closely with the Finance Supervisor and wider finance team to ensure smooth financial operations across the trust. You will:
Financial Operations:
- Process purchase invoices, payments, direct debits, and reconciliations.
- Record and allocate income (grants, sales, etc.) using a structured chart of accounts.
- Prepare and post journals, such as pre-payments and accruals.
Reporting & Reconciliation:
- Maintain accurate financial records, including asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Assist with month-end and year-end procedures, ensuring accurate control account reconciliations.
- Support audit preparations by collating and providing necessary documentation.
Communication & Support:
- Provide guidance to school-based finance teams on using finance systems.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers to ensure timely reconciliation of accounts.
- Actively contribute to process improvements within the finance team.
Administration:
- Undertake general office duties, including filing, emails, and photocopying, while maintaining confidentiality.
Who We're Looking For:
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths (A-C).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, solve straightforward problems, and meet deadlines.
Desirable Experience:
- AAT Level 3 qualification (or a willingness to train).
- Prior experience in a similar finance role, ideally within education, charity, or the public sector.
- Advanced ICT skills and familiarity with financial systems.
Personal Qualities:
- Trustworthy and confidential, with strong professional integrity.
- A team player with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Eager to learn and grow, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
