Belmont Recruitment are recruiting for a Senior Transport Officer to work with Somerset Council on a 6 to 12 month contract with the view to extend, working 37 hours per week. You will be required to work within a team of Senior transport Officers organising and maintaining a network of school transport routes, tendering and managing contracts, liaising with parents, schools and transport providers. Keeping up to date records.

Responsibilities:

  • To organise and maintain a network of school transport routes into Mainstream Schools within a given geographical area of Somerset. The post holder will be responsible for tendering and managing contacts for the provision of School Transport. This will involve close liaison with transport providers, Schools, Childrens Services, Parents and Carers.
  • Designs a complex and constantly changing network of routes as safely and economically as possible, utilising a variety of vehicles operated by a diverse range of contractors.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the network. Re-negotiates route prices for existing contracts/extensions which will have a significant effect on budgets.
  • Undertakes inspections on school sites, both alone and with VOSA/Police to check the safety/efficiency of the Education Transport fleet and that the contract is complied with. Carries out initial telephone risk assessments of pupils.
  • Provides support for drivers and passenger assistants and school/college staff who deal with transport issues and provides training to drivers and passenger assistants.
  • Ensures correct allocation of budget codes and authorises contractor invoices up to agreed limits. Maintains up to date data on journeys through software packages. Answers correspondence that can be complex/contentious.

Location: Somerset, Taunton

Hourly is negotiable depending on experience.
