GSL Education are currently seeking a skilled Primary SEMH Teacher to join a supportive and inclusive school in High Peak, Derbyshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with children who have a range of SEMH needs, including those with ADHD, trauma and challenging behaviours, making a significant impact on their learning and development.
About the Role:
As a Primary SEMH Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective lessons to a small group of students with SEMH needs. Your role will focus on creating a safe and structured learning environment that supports the students' emotional and academic development. You will work closely with the pastoral and support teams, adapting your teaching methods to meet individual needs and ensuring that each student can access the curriculum at their level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare and deliver differentiated lessons to meet the needs of students with SEMH, ensuring that the curriculum is accessible and engaging.
- Create and maintain a structured and supportive learning environment, using effective classroom management strategies to minimise disruptions and maximise learning.
- Develop positive relationships with students, offering emotional and academic support to help them progress both socially and academically.
- Assess and track student progress, providing timely feedback to students and parents and adapting teaching methods to suit the needs of each individual.
- Collaborate closely with teaching assistants, the pastoral team and parents to ensure the best outcomes for students with SEMH.
- Support students in developing essential life skills, including social skills, emotional regulation and problem-solving abilities.
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with school policies to help students manage challenging behaviours and develop self-discipline.
- Foster a growth mindset in students, encouraging resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges.
- Maintain a safe and positive classroom environment, where students feel respected, valued and supported.
Primary SEMH Teacher requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is a must.
- Experience working with children with SEMH, special educational needs (SEN), or behavioural challenges, particularly in a primary school setting.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students with diverse learning needs.
- A patient, compassionate and proactive approach to working with students who require additional support.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
- A sound understanding of behaviour management strategies, particularly concerning SEMH and associated behaviours.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
