About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic Business Unit Manager - Mechanical Products to lead my client and their growing mechanical products division, focusing on gearboxes, gears, pinions, and power transmission solutions for OEMs. Reporting to the Managing Director, you'll provide direction for daily operations, manage the P&L, and work closely with sales to develop Go-To-Market strategies. You'll liaise with the leadership team on projects from bid to delivery, strengthen partnerships, and handle customer inquiries and quotations, freeing up the Mechanical Division head, to focus on sales.
This is a hands-on role where you'll be the technical authority for mechanical solutions, oversee projects, and drive process improvements. You'll predominantly work with OEMs, but also engage with system integrators and end users, collaborating with suppliers and overseas partners.
Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Sale: Formulate proposals and quotations, provide technical product support, prepare specifications, manage the quotation/tender process, and ensure timely delivery of products/projects.
  • Post-Sale: Manage the product business, oversee multiple projects, troubleshoot technical issues, monitor stage payments, manage invoicing and debt chasing, chair monthly review meetings, and drive process improvements.
  • General: Comply with company procedures, support other activities as needed, and be prepared for business travel and occasional extended hours to meet deadlines.
Requirements
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechatronics and power transmission, with a mechanical bias.
  • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, customer-facing skills, and budget management abilities.
  • Highly computer literate, with experience using ERP systems (e.g., I-connect).
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to handle stressful situations professionally.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary (£60,000 - £70,000) plus car allowance.
  • 25 days holiday (plus Bank Holidays), bonus scheme, BUPA Medical plan, pension, life insurance, and employee assistance programme.
  • Flexible working (2-3 days from home), personal development training, free car parking, and EV charge points on-site.
How to Apply
If you have a strong background in mechanical engineering and power transmission, and thrive in a customer-focused, technical leadership role, we'd love to hear from you. Interviews are scheduled ASAP in a 2-stage process.
