Overview of School

specialist school for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Children aged nine to sixteen who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) We provide education for up to 84 children and young people with EHC plans on a non-residential basis.

Overview of Role

The Director of Health and Well-being will lead the strategic approach to promoting learner and staff health and well-being within Woodlands School. The role focuses on providing mental, physical, and emotional support for learners, ensuring that all members of the school community have access to resources that enhance their overall well-being. This role is key to fostering a positive school culture, aligned with the Trusts values of empathy, integrity, and excellence, ensuring that learners are well supported in their educational journey.

Responsibilities

Health and Well-being Strategy- Occupy the role of Designated Mental Health Lead across the school and lead the development and implementation of a whole-school health and well-being strategy, promoting mental, emotional, and physical well-being, Work closely with the Senior Lead for Learner Welfare, other Directors, and support staff to identify key areas of focus, ensuring a proactive approach to well-being support, Promote positive mental health through initiatives, workshops, and access to specialist services for learners and staff.

Staff Well-being- Supportstaff well-being through the creation of a positive work environment, ensuring that staff feel valued, supported, and able to manage their workloads effectively, develop well-being initiatives for staff, including access to mental health support and work-life balance strategies.

Safeguarding and Compliance-Ensure that all health and well-being initiatives are compliant with safeguarding regulations, maintain accurate records related to learner health and well-being, ensuring they meet statutory requirements.

Mental Health and Well-being Interventions-Deliver or oversee the delivery of small group or 1:1 interventions aimed at promoting mental health, resilience, and well-being for learners with identified needs, Lead and manage colleagues in the development and delivery of well-being-focused interventions and small group sessions, ensuring that these are in line with the school's overall health strategy.

Requirements

Qualifications and training -Degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, psychology, education, or related discipline), Professional qualifications related to mental health, safeguarding, or health and well-being support.

Experience-Proven experience in a leadership role within a school or health-related setting, with a focus on well-being, Experience in developing and implementing health and well-being strategies, Experience in delivering well-being interventions and managing small group sessions to promote mental and physical health.

Knowledge-Strong understanding of the national health agenda for schools and well-being, Excellent communication and organisational skills, Ability to create personalised well-being curricula and supervise colleagues in delivering targeted support.
