Job Title: NPD Technologist

Hours:

  • Monday – Friday, 08:30 AM – 17:00 PM

Day-to-Day Duties:

  • Develop and introduce new and improved products to align with business strategy and customer expectations.
  • Interpret retailer briefs to create innovative and feasible product designs.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, customer needs, and gaps in the marketplace.
  • Prepare product samples following precise recipes.
  • Develop and reformulate recipes to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with customer requirements.
  • Calculate new product costings, including ingredient, packaging, labour, and distribution costs.
  • Source high-quality, cost-effective ingredients and collaborate with suppliers.
  • Conduct kitchen trials and pre-production factory trials to test feasibility and resolve issues before launch.
  • Perform microbiology and shelf-life testing to determine product safety and expiration dates.
  • Develop nutritional profiles to meet retailer policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Create cooking instructions to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Facilitate new product transfer from NPD to Production, including training and product assessments.
  • Support the Technical Department in maintaining allergen information and risk assessments.
  • Stay updated with food safety legislation and industry guidelines, ensuring compliance.
  • Manage kitchen stock, minimise waste, and handle sample deliveries.
  • Assist in sample preparations for customer testing, exhibitions, and promotional events.
  • Promote a clean, safe, and productive working environment.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant food science subject.
  • Level 2 Certificate in Food Hygiene (or willingness to complete).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • 1–3 years of experience in new product development, from ideation to launch.
  • Understanding of food manufacturing technologies, R&D, and industry guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience in a professional kitchen.
  • Experience working with retailers to identify trends and market opportunities.

Training:

  • Full training provided on company processes and food safety requirements.
