Green Orchard Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading engineering company in their search for a Design Technician to join their Research & Development team in Tiverton, Devon.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong technical mindset and a passion for innovation to contribute to the development of cutting-edge engineering solutions.

About the role

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the design and development of new products in line with the company’s business plans. This role is ideal for someone with a practical approach to engineering, an eye for detail, and a solid understanding of the design process.

What you will be doing

  • Assisting in the development of new products, ensuring they align with business objectives.
  • Creating 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Producing project documentation, including datasheets, catalogues, and customer CAD models.
  • Undertaking testing of components and assemblies, gathering and analysing results.
  • Maintaining existing product design records and drawings.
  • Supporting the production and optimisation of 3D-printed components.
  • Assisting with rendered images and animations for projects.

What we are looking for

  • A solid understanding of physics and mathematics.
  • Practical engineering skills and hands-on experience.
  • Familiarity with the design process and principles of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD software), as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or a qualification in a similar discipline.
