About the role of Senior Planning Manager

An award winning, leading house builder is looking for an experienced Senior Planning Manager to join their Land & Planning team based in Tonbridge.

The Senior Planning Manager will lead the preparation, submission, and negotiation of planning applications, including S106 agreements and viability models. Reporting to the Land and Planning Director, the role involves collaboration with stakeholders, local authorities, and the community to manage schemes through the planning process. It also includes overseeing planning conditions, ensuring compliance, and delivering results for the business.



Key Responsibilities for a Senior Planning Manager

  • Appoint and manage a consultant team to prepare and submit planning applications and appeals.
  • Oversee and track project fee budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Deliver projects on schedule through strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Draft and review technical reports and relevant plans or documents.
  • Secure approvals for well-designed schemes aligned with national planning guidance.
  • Lead community engagement initiatives during the planning process.
  • Support the land team in identifying and acquiring development opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with local planning authorities and stakeholders, leveraging a robust network.
  • Address viability in negotiations to ensure the successful delivery of development projects.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors on planning strategies and progress.


Key Requirements for a Senior Planning Manager

  • Degree in Planning or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years experience in Planning and Development, ideally with a MRTPI qualification.
  • Previous experience with a developer, housebuilder, or planning consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of planning systems, legislation, and policies, with a focus on viability and negotiation.
  • A proven ability to manage consultant teams and engage with stakeholders effectively.
  • A full driving license.
