Senior Optical Systems Engineer - South West England

Leading photonics company seeks a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join our R&D team. You'll develop cutting-edge fiber optic components, high-power optical amplifiers, and optical transmitter sub-systems across multiple markets.

The role is hybrid although fully remote UK based candidates will be considered

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop optical/fiber-optic components and subsystems
  • Lead a small technical team
  • Participate in prototype build & test
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electronic design engineers
  • Manage key project budgets and timelines

Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering or Physics (PhD preferred)
  • Experience in high-power fiber lasers/amplifiers, non-linear optics, or photonic integrated circuits
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic and free-space transmission systems
  • Team leadership experience
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Limited travel (<5%)
