Senior Optical Systems Engineer - South West England
Leading photonics company seeks a Senior Optical Systems Engineer to join our R&D team. You'll develop cutting-edge fiber optic components, high-power optical amplifiers, and optical transmitter sub-systems across multiple markets.
The role is hybrid although fully remote UK based candidates will be considered
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop optical/fiber-optic components and subsystems
- Lead a small technical team
- Participate in prototype build & test
- Collaborate with mechanical and electronic design engineers
- Manage key project budgets and timelines
Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering or Physics (PhD preferred)
- Experience in high-power fiber lasers/amplifiers, non-linear optics, or photonic integrated circuits
- Knowledge of fiber-optic and free-space transmission systems
- Team leadership experience
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Limited travel (<5%)
