Role Overview:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who face challenges related to social, emotional, and mental health. Your role will be to provide tailored support, promoting positive behavior, emotional regulation, and academic achievement. You will support students both individually and in small groups, helping them develop the skills needed to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
- Support students in managing their emotions, behaviors, and social interactions in a school setting.
- Assist with the development and implementation of behavior management plans and individualized learning strategies.
- Encourage positive behavior, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Support students in accessing the curriculum, ensuring they can participate fully in lessons.
- Monitor students' progress, recording observations and reporting any concerns to the class teacher and SENCO.
- Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals to develop and deliver tailored support strategies.
- Promote self-confidence, independence, and resilience in students.
- Safeguard the welfare of students at all times and follow school safeguarding policies.
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children who have SEMH or similar needs is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of SEMH, behavior management strategies, and the challenges faced by students with additional needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and resilience in the face of challenging situations.
- Ability to adapt to different teaching approaches and support students in a variety of ways.
- A positive and proactive approach to supporting students' emotional and academic growth.
