Search Press is a family-owned independent publisher with a dynamic team. Since the 1970s, we’ve been crafting award-winning art and craft books, gaining recognition for our hands-on approach from concept through to production.

We have an in-house photography studio and warehouse, making our process unique in the industry. Located just a short walk from High Brooms station and close to the A21 and A26, we offer a supportive, creative work environment where team spirit and innovation thrive.

The Role

As our Graphic Designer, you’ll work closely with our design and editorial teams to bring inspiring art and craft books to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualise, design, and manage all stages of book projects, from mood boards to final designs and colour proofing
  • Adapt designs to suit various age groups and art/craft subjects, maintaining a strong sense of title branding
  • Collaborate with the Design Manager, editorial, production, and in-house teams from concept to final book
  • Effectively communicate with artists and internal/external teams.
  • Develop illustration and photography briefs, providing guidance and feedback on external artwork
  • Prepare print-ready PDFs and check proofs to ensure high-quality standards
  • Assist with Book Fair and Sales Conference preparation, updating catalogues when needed
  • Work with the Production team on reprint titles, adjusting files as necessary
  • Stay updated on current graphic and visual trends
  • Contribute to art direction and planning for in-house and on-location photo shoots

The Ideal Candidate

We’re seeking a proactive designer with experience and creativity to join our team. You should bring a positive attitude, excellent communication, and a passion for detail. About you:

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Graphic Design experience
  • BA Hons or equivalent in design preferred
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills across a variety of projects
  • Motivated team player with adaptability to work across product categories
  • Excellent time management, organisation, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Experience in print design and licensed ranges desirable
  • A strong portfolio showcasing typography skills and the ability to combine type and imagery
