Finance Assistant

  • Job Type: Temporary (10 months)
  • Location: Hybrid (Epsom & Tunbridge Wells for one day a week and then 3 days from home- after initial training period)
  • Salary: £13.74- £15.38 per hour or £16.95- £19.05 via an umbrella company
  • Hours: 09.00- 17.00- 35 hours per week
  • Start date: WC 21st of October 2024

We are looking for a dedicated Finance Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis for 10 months. The role is designed to process and record transactions for both Income and Purchase Ledger and to provide support to the wider Finance Team. This hybrid role requires someone to be in the Epsom and Kent Epsom offices one day a week respectively.

Purpose

To ensure the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and to support the daily operations of the Finance department. This role is integral to maintaining the financial integrity of the organisation.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Post daily income received to the rent accounts promptly and accurately, including bank receipts, cash, cheques, and Housing Benefit.
  • Process all rent adjustments, ensuring they are correct and appropriately authorised.
  • Register purchase invoices on IPOS and file electronically.
  • Assist with coding invoices and develop knowledge of the expense code structure and process.
  • Manage utilities purchase invoices and maintain the invoice log accurately.
  • Ensure purchase invoices are processed within specific timescales and follow up on any outstanding invoices.
  • Handle petty cash and gift vouchers responsibly.
  • Assist with processing utility company invoices and ad-hoc ones received on void properties.
  • Raise invoices for sales and recharges accurately and promptly.
  • Provide support in the daily running of the Finance department as required.
  • Exercise a duty of care with respect to health and safety.
  • Work flexibly, undertaking any reasonable tasks requested by the Financial Controller and Accountant Financial (Purchase Ledger).
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Numerical accuracy and an aptitude for numbers.
  • A-Level Mathematics and English Language GCSE (or equivalent).
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, intermediate excel skills.
  • Strong communication skills with internal and external individuals in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Flexible approach to work, aiming to meet business needs and work within strict deadlines.

Desirable:

  • Training in a recognised accounting qualification.
  • Experience working in a finance team and dealing with both purchase and rent ledger transaction processing.
  • Knowledge of social housing and housing associations.
