We are seeking a dedicated Careers Advisor to join our team in a Further Education College. This role is pivotal in ensuring that all students acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to progress within the College and transition successfully to Higher Education, Apprenticeships, or employment. The Careers Advisor will play a crucial role in developing students’ understanding of potential progression options and the skills needed for employment and higher education.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support and deliver high-quality, impartial information, advice, and guidance to students and parents/guardians on employability skills and career readiness.
  • Maintain and enhance resources related to careers education, information, advice, and guidance.
  • Undertake project work such as tracking student destinations, raising awareness of student career success, and developing pathways.
  • Conduct group work and 1:1 sessions with students, including organizing external speakers and industry specialists.
  • Support the organization of college-wide events related to progression and careers, such as Higher Education and Work and Training Fairs.
  • Collaborate with Curriculum Divisions to develop targeted careers events and maintain up-to-date employability resources online.
  • Provide training and presentations on UCAS and progression to work for staff, students, and parents.
  • Liaise with Higher Education institutions, employers, and training advisors to arrange speakers and coordinate Careers Fairs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • QCF Level 6 or higher qualification in Career guidance and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop relationships and influence others in a client-facing environment.
  • Hold Level 2 Maths and English qualification.
  • A passion for education and making a difference to the life chances of all young people.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the various career and higher education opportunities.
  • Excellent planning, time management, and organisational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience as a confident public speaker/presenter and acting as an ambassador.
  • Experience of working within a post-16 education or training organisation.
  • Experience of providing information and advice to 16-19-year-old students and their parents/carers.
