The Role

We’re supporting a nuclear and defence client in seeking a Waste Officer to manage and oversee radioactive, hazardous, and controlled waste disposal. This role ensures compliance with Environmental Permits, nuclear regulations, and industry best practices, driving safe and efficient waste processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee waste management activities, ensuring compliance with nuclear and defence regulations.
  • Develop and implement waste handling, storage, and disposal strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and safety legislation.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to monitor waste management practices.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and site teams to ensure smooth operations.
Requirements:
  • Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
  • Proven experience in waste management within nuclear and/or defence environments.
  • Strong knowledge of radioactive waste classification, sentencing, and disposal regulations (LLW, ILW, VLLW, etc.).
  • Familiarity with NDA, ONR, EA, SEPA, and DEFRA regulatory requirements
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and hazardous waste handling.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external regulators.
