About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to oversee geotechnical operations in the rail sector. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in conducting geotechnical investigations and managing site operations. You will be responsible for managing teams, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality, and collaborating with cross-functional teams—engineering, environmental, and construction—to support rail infrastructure projects and help in the development of system and processes to achieve robust and consistent deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all geotechnical drilling activities, ensuring efficient and safe project execution.
- Provide support and mentorship for graduate engineers.
- Lead all quality control of site data acquisition.
- Site logging
- Report writing.
- Phase 1 & 2 and Geoenvironmental reports.
- Coordinate with clients and stakeholders, managing paperwork and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, environmental, and construction teams to drive the development of rail infrastructure projects.
- Oversee field operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site personnel.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
- SSSTS/CSCS.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a solid understanding of geotechnical investigations, design, and reporting.
- Proficiency in geotechnical design software (e.g., GeoStudio, PLAXIS, etc.)
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, ground engineering, and foundation design
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and client relationships
- Full UK driving license
Desirable:
- Knowledge of gINT, Holebase or other logging software.
- Rock and Soil logging training.
- PTS.
