About the Role:

The post holder will be responsible for managing and directing production activities across two departments within the Company, overseeing both direct and agency staff. This role plays a crucial part in leading production teams, ensuring smooth operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Operations Manager and other departments to meet production goals, ensure quality standards, and foster a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise, and develop a team of Production Operatives.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and training to enhance team skills and productivity.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
  • Collaborate with HR on employee relations and conflict management within the team.
  • Ensure all SOPs, training guides, and support materials are utilised to drive continuous improvement, onboarding, and staff retention.
  • Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards.
  • Monitor production processes and workflows, addressing potential issues and implementing improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and Planner to adjust production schedules as needed, responding to unforeseen issues such as machine breakdowns or material shortages.
  • Ensure proper documentation of production activities and generate performance reports.
  • Ensure all products meet quality specifications and standards.
  • Work with the Quality team to resolve any quality issues.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions for process deviations and defects.
  • Partner with the Health and Safety Manager to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Identify and mitigate potential safety risks in the production area.
  • Ensure all team members are trained in equipment use and comply with safety protocols.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Analyse production data and KPIs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., health and safety, maintenance, quality) to implement process enhancements.
  • Liaise with other departments such as maintenance, quality, purchasing, and business development to ensure smooth operations.
  • Report production progress, challenges, and performance metrics to Senior Management.
  • Be fully accountable for the performance and output of the production team, ensuring KPIs are met and deadlines achieved.
  • Act as an ambassador for communication and engagement with all team members.
  • Support and mentor the production team in continuous improvement, efficiency gains, and lean manufacturing techniques.
