Welfare Manager

The Welfare Manager plays a vital role in promoting the wellbeing and safeguarding of students, ensuring they have access to the necessary support to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The role involves working closely with students, staff, parents, and external agencies to provide pastoral care, intervention strategies, and safeguarding support.

• Act as a first point of contact for students experiencing personal, emotional, or social difficulties.
• Provide one-to-one and group support to students, offering guidance and signposting to additional resources when necessary.
• Promote a positive and inclusive school culture that prioritises mental health and emotional wellbeing.
• Develop and implement wellbeing initiatives to support students' overall health and happiness.

• Work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to ensure all safeguarding concerns are handled appropriately.
• Identify and support vulnerable students, ensuring early intervention strategies are in place.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of safeguarding and welfare concerns in line with school policies and statutory requirements.
• Liaise with external agencies, such as social services, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and local authorities, to coordinate support for students.

• Monitor student attendance and work closely with families to address persistent absence.
• Support behaviour management strategies, working with students to develop positive coping mechanisms and resilience.
• Collaborate with pastoral and teaching staff to ensure students receive appropriate support both in and out of the classroom.

• Build strong relationships with parents and carers to support students' welfare and development.
• Organise workshops and training for parents on topics such as mental health, online safety, and behaviour management.
• Engage with local community services to enhance student welfare provision.

• Experience working with young people in a pastoral, welfare, or safeguarding role.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., KCSIE, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

• Qualification in social work, counselling, psychology, or a related field.
• Experience working in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of SEND and mental health support strategies.
