Key Responsibilities:
  • Housing Applications: Process housing applications from individuals and families seeking council accommodation. Assess eligibility, prioritise based on need, and ensure that all applications are handled in line with council policies.
  • Allocation of Properties: Match applicants to available housing in accordance with local housing policies and allocation schemes. Ensure that properties are allocated fairly and efficiently.
  • Waitlist Management: Maintain and update housing waiting lists, ensuring accurate records are kept. Inform applicants of their status on the waiting list and manage expectations.
  • Housing Needs Assessments: Conduct thorough assessments to determine the housing needs of applicants, considering factors such as family size, medical requirements, and financial circumstances.
  • Support and Guidance: Provide guidance and support to applicants, explaining the allocation process, eligibility criteria, and the availability of different types of housing.
  • Liaison with Housing Management: Work closely with Housing Officers, Estate Managers, and other departments to coordinate the allocation of properties and ensure that housing is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Tenant Communication: Communicate with applicants and tenants regarding their application status, changes to policies, and any relevant updates. Respond to queries and resolve any concerns raised by applicants.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in housing management, housing allocations, or a related role, preferably within local government or a housing association.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of housing allocation policies, local government housing schemes, and housing law.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex processes to applicants in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and a large volume of applications while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Customer Service: Strong focus on customer service and the ability to handle sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations with applicants.
  • IT Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office and housing management software (e.g., Northgate, Capita).
Desirable:
  • Relevant Qualifications: A qualification in Housing, Property Management, or a related field (e.g., CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing).
