Overview
This role will work alongside the Regional Design Manager working on a variety of projects including HRB, the role will be a mixture of both office and site based, with the initial phases of projects being office based whilst the Gateway 2 information is progressed prior to start on site.
The role is to lead the design management function on from contract award, driving the design of complex projects by utilising construction knowledge and experience to develop innovative and cost-effective design solutions in conjunction with the design team. Apply value engineering principles to ensure best value for all parties and ensure an effective construction phase by applying an understanding of site management practices, risks, costs and coordination.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience as a Design Manager for a main contractor, experience of working within the construction industry, specifically on design and build, new build residential projects, a good knowledge of current CDM, Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act together with experience of managing document management systems.
The key responsibilities will be;
Oversee the preconstruction phase of projects, ensuring designs meet client specifications and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to create cost-effective and efficient designs
Manage the project design budget and timeline
Work closely with the client team liaising on multiple projects
Maintain effective communication with the customer on all agreed actions to ensure that any issues are resolved to their satisfaction.
Lead design team meetings & provide regular updates to senior management on project progress.
Ensure all projects adhere to company standards and industry regulations.
Facilitate communication between all project stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
Implement & maintain quality control procedures throughout the design & construction process.
Required skills
Membership of a professional body, e.g. CIOB, RIBA, CIAT etc. good working knowledge of the building regulations and warranty providers requirements, the use of Microsoft Office, use of online document management systems, the ability to communicate with a range of people at all levels, both verbally and in writing, ability to make reasoned and informed commercial judgements and design decisions, ability to plan, organise and manage all aspects of the design and client and customer focused to build productive relationships.
