Our client is a well-established law firm and they are now seeking an experienced person to support their finance team. Our client is either seeking someone who has experience of legal aid or as a legal cashier. However, they will also consider experienced finance administrators who enjoy working in a busy finance role.

Your role as a billing assistant, you will:

  • Prepare and submit claims for payment on account to support 3 monthly billing processes.
  • Process final, appeal and adjustment bills prepared by Costs Draftsman.
  • Submit COP court assessed bills on e-filing.
  • Resolve accounts ledger queries in relation to billing.
  • Reconcile Legal Aid Statements, including posting bills and accurate allocation of costs.
  • Act as point of contact for the Legal Aid Agency and between the family/care departmental staff as needed.
  • Act as point of contact for the external Costs Draftsman.
  • Undertake intermittent cost checks.
  • Be responsible for the monthly submission of the mental health and family fixed fee (legal help) bills; and
  • Prepare and submit intermittent exceptional mental health legal help bills.
  • Oversee claim processes for disbursements and invoices from Experts to the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) for the Family/Care Department.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage high volume billing activities efficiently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to learn and be part of a team.
  • A proactive attitude.
  • A problem solving mindset; and the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in using the legal aid agency CCMS system (Cost Management System) would be advantageous.
