This exciting opportunity is for a teacher who has experience in delivering a specialist humanities subject (such as history, geography, or social studies) but is also able to teach across a broad primary curriculum to children with a range of special educational needs (SEN). This is a temporary role starting in Easter 2025, with the potential for a permanent position from September 2025, depending on performance and the needs of the school.Role Overview:As a Humanities Teacher, you will have the opportunity to deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in your specialist subject, while also supporting the wider primary curriculum for students with moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will help develop the students' understanding of the world, fostering their curiosity and expanding their knowledge in a way that is tailored to their individual learning needs.Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering the Humanities Curriculum: Provide engaging and accessible humanities lessons (history, geography, and related subjects) that are tailored to the diverse needs of students.
  • Primary Curriculum Teaching: Adapt and teach elements of the primary curriculum, including literacy, numeracy, and life skills, ensuring lessons are accessible and relevant for children with SEN.
  • Individualised Support: Differentiate teaching strategies and resources to meet the varied learning styles and abilities of students with complex needs.
  • Collaborating with Support Staff: Work closely with teaching assistants and other professionals to ensure all students receive appropriate support and interventions.
  • Social and Emotional Development: Support the social and emotional development of students, using a nurturing and patient approach to help them build confidence and independence.
  • Recording Progress: Keep detailed records of students' progress, behaviour, and well-being, ensuring that each child's development is tracked and supported.
  • Engaging with Families: Work in partnership with parents and caregivers to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Specialist Subject Knowledge: A strong background in teaching humanities, with a deep understanding of subjects like history, geography, or social studies.
  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience teaching children with learning difficulties, ASD, SEMH, or other complex needs.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: Ability to deliver both specialist humanities content and broader primary curriculum subjects, adjusting methods to meet individual learning needs.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Able to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Patience and Compassion: A compassionate, patient approach to teaching, with a focus on building students' self-esteem and engagement.
