Job Description:We are seeking a passionate and committed Teaching Assistant with experience in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) for a mainstream primary school in the Wantage area. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting classroom teachers, ensuring that all students, especially those with SEN, have the support they need to thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the classroom teacher to provide tailored support to students with SEN, helping them to access the curriculum and achieve their learning goals.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of learning activities, including adapting materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support for SEN students, fostering their confidence and independence.
  • Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour strategies, working with other staff and external agencies to ensure student progress.
  • Support the emotional and social development of all pupils, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Supervise students during break times, on outings, and during other non-classroom activities.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in the student's education.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development sessions to stay updated on educational practices and SEN strategies.

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience as a teaching assistant, with significant experience in SEN support.
  • A strong understanding of SEN requirements, including experience with a variety of learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and social/emotional needs.
  • Commitment to the school and a genuine interest in career progression within the education industry.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • A proactive, patient, and compassionate approach, with a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of all students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in supporting the changing needs of students and the school environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • SEN training or certification.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development.
  • Experience using assistive technology or tools to support SEN students.
