About the school:
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.Â
About the Role
As a Vocational SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll support students in areas like horticulture, agriculture, animal care, and equine skills. Working with tutors, you’ll assist with practical lessons, enterprise activities, and help students build confidence and job-readiness in hands-on settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students in a variety of vocational subjects, including horticulture, animal care, equine studies, and agriculture.
- Assist in delivering practical lessons in outdoor, hands-on settings.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN.
- Help to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
- Assist with day-to-day running of enterprise projects and activities.
- Promote independence and develop students’ employability skills.
Requirements:
- Experience working with young people or adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable.
- A passion for outdoor education and vocational teaching.
- An understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEN and the ability to adapt to individual needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- A flexible, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
- Previous experience in vocational areas such as horticulture, agriculture, or animal care is advantageous, but not essential.
