The Role

Our client started life as a humble ‘man and van’ start up, since then, they have experienced significant organic growth, transforming into an organisation with a reach throughout the UK. They are now trusted to provide logistics solutions to some of the best-known companies in the country. Their growth is impressive, and they are now seeking a proven General Manager who will work closely with the MD to deliver the Company Business Plan releasing him to focus on strategic business growth.

They are looking for a commercially minded and hands-on General Manager and, reporting directly to the MD, in this vital role, you will be responsible for delivering the company’s strategic business plan objectives, driving continued growth while ensuring the highest standards of customer service are maintained.

You will lead and be fully accountable for the performance of the Logistics, Finance, and Sales departments, and act as the company’s first line problem solver across all areas—clients, suppliers, finance, people, and IT—with the aim of minimising day-to-day involvement from the MD. 

You will take full ownership of daily operations, ensuring service levels and gross margins remain aligned with company KPIs, with direct oversight of a busy and fast-paced Logistics Department.

This is a broad, multi-functional role, and your responsibilities will include managing the company budget in line with forecasts, monitoring team performance, overseeing recruitment, induction, and training, and driving sales team activity to support growth in line with business objectives.

Skills and Qualifications

  • You must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of delivering strong business results.
  • Industry knowledge is advantageous but not essential and your CV will need to demonstrate clear leadership credentials, including experience managing and developing small teams, alongside excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Success in this role will require outstanding communication and negotiation abilities, the capability to translate strategy into effective day-to-day operations, and the resilience to work under pressure.
  • A self-starter mindset and a passion for personal and professional development—for both yourself and your team—are essential.
