We are recruiting for Legacy & Archive Officer to support the Hillsborough Enquiry. The role is based in Warrington with hybrid working arrangements in place.

What is the role?

The Hillsborough Archive Team are looking for dynamic individuals who can work on their own and as part of a team, using their initiative to assess documents, imagery, audio material and other material in the possession of the Archive Team as result from their investigations.

To appropriately process material that has been identified as being of historic value considering the legislative requirements and comply with policy and conventions relevant to archiving material. Also, to prepare and process material in readiness for sensitivity reviews and transfer to The National Archive. All applicants must be able to meet the essential criteria when applying for the post. Extensive training will be given to successful applicants.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Responsible for accurately assessing material against legislative requirements, policy and conventions and maintaining the integrity of the material.
  • To produce and maintain Excel spreadsheets and management reports.
  • Scan material and edit as necessary using Adobe Pro software and manage the product using emails, Excel spreadsheets and various databases.
  • When assessing material record appropriate rationale for decisions.
  • Treat the material in accordance with National Archiving standards and preserve the integrity of it.
  • Accurately apply legislation and protocol and apply best practice.
  • Ensure that all material, including sensitive data and exhibits, are managed, and handled appropriately
  • Make independent assessments using professional judgement as to the type and nature of preparatory work material requires prior to processing applying legislation, policy, and conventions.

What skills do you Need?

  • Previous experience of archiving would be beneficial but training will be provided.
  • IT Skills will be required including Word, Excel and HOLMES, as you will be required to accurately input and research data.  
  • Excellent Communication Skills,.
  • To comply with legal obligations, in terms of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Records Act 1958 and Information Management Authorised Professional Practice.

This temporary role is for an initial 12 months, working full-time (36.25 hours per week) paying an initial £22.56 per hour PAYE. An Umbrella equivalent is also available.
