Job Title: Senior Mechanical Estimator

Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 per annum

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our Major Projects division. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the full tendering process, ensuring the successful acquisition of profitable contracts and supporting the company's overall growth strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage contract enquiries allocated by the Estimating Manager.
- Develop and submit tenders in line with client requirements and company procedures.
- Analyse scope of work, issue supplier and subcontractor enquiries, and assess responses.
- Conduct quantity take-offs from engineering drawings and establish project costs.
- Apply norms/costs to bills of quantities or schedule of rates, including subcontractor elements.
- Collaborate with internal divisions to gather relevant information for tender submissions.
- Attend site visits and tender meetings (UK & Overseas) to assess project conditions.
- Establish manhour requirements, evaluate plant, staff, and accommodation costs.
- Present tenders at review meetings with senior management and directors.
- Finalise estimates and prepare comprehensive tender submissions.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of tenders.
- Review contract documents, attend post-tender meetings, and handle contract queries.
- Support project teams upon successful tender award.
- Mentor and oversee junior estimating personnel.
- Continuously seek improvements in tendering and estimating processes.
What We're Looking For:
Qualifications: HNC, ONC, City & Guilds, or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Experience: Significant experience in mechanical estimating within industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical, nuclear, utilities, or food & drink.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong numerical and literacy skills.
- Excellent IT proficiency.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and with clients.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and people management skills.
- In-depth understanding of estimating, commercial practices, engineering, and project management principles.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
