Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a VAT & Indirect Tax Compliance Specialist to support the Group Tax Manager (GTM) by ensuring governance and compliance for VAT and indirect tax requirements. The role also involves providing VAT advice, managing compliance processes, and working on tax-related projects to drive business savings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure governance and process compliance within the VAT function for Senior Accounting Officer and Criminal Finance Act purposes.
  • Provide VAT advice on a wide range of VAT-related issues, including Domestic Reverse Charge and Joint Ventures.
  • Manage the group VAT compliance process, including preparing the group VAT return and reviewing the work of finance teams across business units.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with operating units, external advisers, auditors, and HMRC on VAT matters.
  • Deliver VAT training to finance, commercial, and procurement colleagues.
  • Responsible for VAT balance sheet reconciliations and ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the GTM on tax projects that aim to deliver savings and efficiency within the business.

Skills & Experience Required

  • VAT expertise (qualified or experienced in industry preferable)
  • Strong accounting experience and ability to manage ERP-related systems
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Advanced Excel and analytical skills
  • Interest in tax technologies and process improvements
  • High attention to detail, strong self-audit ability
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to explain technical matters to non-technical staff
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and handle time-sensitive projects
  • Flexibility to travel to Skanska sites across the UK when required
