Sensory Food Taster

Location: Welwyn Garden City

Hours: 3 days a week Monday and Friday mandatory ( third working day flexible). 9 hours a week however potential for more.

Rate: £12.12

Our client is a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer headquartered in Welwyn Garden City, England. In 2011, it was the third-largest retailer in the world measured by gross revenues and the ninth-largest in the world measured by revenues.

Summary

Our purpose is to monitor the quality of our products against our competitors. These results are then reported back to the wider business to develop new products for our client if needed. The Panel Excellence Programme will be able to support us in achieving testing excellence and improving product quality. By doing this we are ensuring we are measuring up to the excellence expected by the business. Some of the areas being assessed will include panel best practice.

Our Sensory Product team is part of the Product Insight Team who are responsible for championing customer opinions. Between us we prepare, taste and collate data on a selection of samples of food & drink across all food categories within the business. We will sometimes be asked to test non-food items too like health and beauty or washing/cleaning products.

Your role as a Sensory Food Taster (Panellist):

  • This is primarily a food tasting role.
  • You will be required to eat a wide variety of foods, including ready meals, sweets, meat/fish and bakery items throughout a 3-hour period.
  • Be able to work a minimum 9 hours/3 sessions a week Mon - Friday
  • You'll be required to participate in all mandatory sensory training, and palette screening.
  • You will need to maintain a high level of sensory awareness.
  • You must possess excellent communication and listening skills.
  • You need to have the ability to work well within a team.
  • A general interest in food is a must.
  • You must be computer literate.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Communications
  • Ability to listen to the Panel Leader and follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to describe and communicate to other team members your individual sensory perceptions on products.
  • To individually record data promptly and accurately via use of a tablet.
  1. Analytical Skills & Creativity
  • Ability to analyse and describe the sensory attributes within products without bias.
  • To be able to describe a product openly in front of your team.
