Our client is a leading engineering and manufacturing company based in Wembley who specialise in the design and manufacture of highly complex projects for the Science & Medical industries.
Due to increase needs, our client is currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the growing team to work on a new project.
Key responsibilities/Duties
Managing the development and maintenance of manufactured, fabricated and formed parts, including specification, design, initial procurement, assembly, and testing.
Responsibility for management of Mechanical Design Engineers as required, providing guidance and leadership.
Ensuring that the information held on the ERP system is up to date and relevant for all designed machined and fabricated parts.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that products meet their requirements.
Ensuring that designs meet regulatory and safety requirements and ensuring that all Engineering drawings meet the requirements of BS8888.
First draft BOM for all products.
Working with the R&D team to further technical innovation and excellence in SMS products.
Responsibility for the Mechanical Design aspects of the Development plan, ensuring that they are delivered on time and within budget.
Identifying and addressing technical issues related to mechanical design, manufacturability and costs throughout the development process.
Coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of prototype components and materials.
Working with the team to ensure that projects and tasks are completed within the constraints of the project plan.
Working with the R&D Director to ensure that the Department budget is adhered to and provide input to the budget as required.
Provide input, where requested, to the strategic direction of the department, including resource allocation, expenditure and overhead control.
Contribute to technical reviews, ensuring that all products are making best use of the technology available to us.
Provide relevant input to the production of assembly instructions, service manuals and operator manuals.
Stay up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies related to manufacturing processes, Mechanical and Product design.
Requirements
Excellent SolidWorks skills
Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Proven experience in Mechanical design and product development, with a track record of contributing to the successful launch of new products to market, preferably in a Metrology based industry
A good understanding of Mechanical design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and testing.
Experience of working with a wide range of materials, tools and technologies and be familiar with industry standards and regulations.
A good understanding of additive manufacturing and how to make the most of 3D printing capability and capacity.
Familiar with project management tools and methodologies and be able to manage your time when working on multiple projects.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with cross functional teams.
Able to use data to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
Experience in supplier selection and liaison with procurement departments.
Familiarity with ISO9001:2008 and/or ISO13485 quality management systems
Experience with Product Data Management / Product Lifecycle Management Systems
Knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and BOM data accuracy
Understanding of ISO 7010 requirements for safety signage
Understanding of BS8888.
